On the southeastern shore of the Gulf of Laconia, 115 kilometers from the prefectural capital of Sparti, is the seaside town of Neapoli.
It stretches along the bay at the foot of the furthest outreaches of Mt. Parnon that form the peninsula of Epidaurus Limira, culminating in Cape Maleas.
While its maritime tradition is still much in evidence, Neapoli has also grown to become a popular holiday destination with its clean beaches, a variety of cafes and bars and restaurants specializing in seafood, including the local speciality, grilled octopus.
Spread out around the surrounding mountainsides, with spectacular views of the sea, are villages that have retained much of their original character.
Hydrofoils and passenger ferries connect Neapoli with the island of Kythera and nearby Elafonisos. Neapoli also has port facilities for visiting yachts.
Wide choice of accommodation, taverns, entertainment is available.
